WHEC statement on the publication of the Future Forums’ second phase report

January 2012

“WHEC welcomes the four reports published by the Future Forum, which highlight important issues that will need to be addressed if the NHS is to move forward and provide effective and quality care.

We are particularly pleased to see the important role the NHS plays in reducing health inequalities made clear and the importance of improving access to services for all. We know there are groups of women and girls who are not getting the care they deserve at the expense of their health and wellbeing and we agree that as the NHS moves forward, the needs of everyone, including the most vulnerable must be at the heart of what the NHS delivers.

We welcome the Forum’s focus on increasing choice, control and access to information. Not having the right information poses a major barrier for some women and girls health and wellbeing. However, we would have like to have seen more emphasis on safeguarding and a recognition of the potential risks associated with giving people online access to their care records . As this proposal is rolled out, safeguarding must be secured and central to how information is shared and made available.”
